Motivational May Spotlight - Day 19 | Mike & Kimberly Miller

As I continue my journey to reveal the most influential and inspirational people, events or other in my running career.  While there are hundreds and hundreds of people who have been a part of my running career and I am very grateful for the role they are in my life, I will be share with you the most inspirational.

Some you will know, some will be no surprise, but others may be.  I promised these posts will be raw, truthful and sometimes emotional.  Maybe in these posts you will find your own inspirational or feel compelled to thank those around you.

In 2010, at the expo of my first long distance race (RnRLV Half)  I met a small group of runners.  Two are from Canada (Time & Erin) & another couple, Michael and Kimberly from Arizona.  I felt like I was amongst giants.  If I remember correctly, Michael was completely his 7th Marathon in a year and Tim was doing the same.  I thought to myself, "WHO in their right mind races more than once a year?"  Little did I know that less than 48 hours later, I would join the insanity.

After the race expo, I had not seen much of Michael and Kimberly. We did see each other at local races and it was always great to spend a few minutes to check up.

Eventually, I connected with them on Facebook and we were able to chat more.  Through the years, I learned what wonderful and humble people they are.  If only all runners would follow their lead!  They are accomplished athletes, and will be the first to assist another runner. They organize their own trail/ultra events, while continuing their love of running.

At my first ever Overall Win (Running with the Devil, 2012) - Kimberly & Mike happened to be there.  It was quite surreal to have Kimberly & Mike there.  In 2010, I was the scared-to-death woman who believed I would DIE running 13.1 - to suddenly holding a 1st place plaque in my hand.

Kimberly and Mike, you will never grasp how much you inspired me on that day in 2010 at our local Starbucks.  While we don't see each other as often as I would like, just know, I think about you often and forever grateful for you being the special people that you are.
